Categorizing Objects
Now that you have created a category, you can start adding objects to the category. With Tiki, you can categorize just about anything: wiki pages, blogs, images, etc. There are two methods of categorizing objects:
- Selecting a category while editing the object
- Using the Category Administration page
Note
Editing the Object
Let's categorize the HomePage.
- From the HomePage, select Edit. The Edit page appears. Notice that there is a new Categories tab.
- On the Categories tab, select the newly created category.
- Click Save. Tiki saves the page and loads the Home page.
If the category had sub-categories, Tiki would have shown the complete path. For example:
Web 2.0 > Client-side > Ajax
Note
Web 2.0 > Client-side > Ajax Web 2.0 > Client-side
You can categorize other objects (such as blog posts and articles) while editing them, too.
Using the Category Administration page
In addition to categorizing objects by editing the individual object, you can also add multiple objects to category by using the Categories control panel.
From the Admin menu:
- Select Settings > Categories.
- On the Admin Categories page, click the category in which to add an object.
File not found.
Additional tabs appear. - Click the Add Objects to Category tab. Tiki displays the current objects in the category (the HomePage that you added previously). The Home Page is in the Web 2.0 category:
File not found.
- Click the Add Objects to Category tab.
File not found.
- Select an object (such as another wiki page, an article, and image, etc.) to add to the category and click Add.
Tip
If your site has too many wiki pages to show at once, use the Find field as a filter for specific pages. For example, finding "Home" will display only wiki pages with Home in their name.
Tiki saves the information and reloads the page. - Use the Objects in category tab to display the objects in the current category.
This figure shows 3 items in the Web 2.0 category.
- The wiki page: HomePage
- The wiki page: MyNewPage
- The blog: My TikiWiki Blog
